1、《儒林外史》是古代諷刺小說的代表作。清代吳敬梓著。在書中，作者先集中筆力諷刺那些追名逐利的讀書人，再着力刻畫一批品行高尚、學識淵博的讀書人，集中表現以儒林為中心的整個社會的灰暗現實。
2、魯迅的《中國小說史略》對此書評價極高，“秉持公心，指擿時弊。機鋒所向，尤在士林；其文又戚而能諧，婉而多諷。”
